Get Involved

Here are some simple things you can do to get involved and active as an advocate for affordable housing:
Project Homeless Connect 4
University of Denver, Mile High United Way and Denver's Road Home announce Project Homeless Connect 4 to take place on the university campus on April 20th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to connect the homeless in Denver with much needed services and assist them in living life off of the streets! For more information on how to volunteer, go to www.du.edu/phc4. Otherwise, download a flier that has information for volunteers and another flier designed to provide information for the homeless about this event. Please feel free to share these fliers with friends and colleagues in the community! We look forward to seeing you at Project Homeless Connect 4!.

Read the book “Nickel and Dimed” by Barbara Ehrenreich

The author explores what it is really like to try and get by in America as a service worker. Suggest this book to your book club, faith community education class or circle of friends.

Volunteer with organizations devoted to providing housing

These organizations focus at least in part on assuring that everyone has a decent and safe place to live.

    Habitat for Humanity - www.habitatcolorado.org

Builds simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter. There are 29 affiliates in Colorado.

    Brothers Redevelopment Inc. - www.briathome.org

Rehabilitates homes with help of volunteers and resells them affordably to families who need a home. BRI also hosts an annual Paint-a-thon.

    Interfaith Hospitality Network - http://www.interfaithhospitality.org/
Gives shelter and services to homeless individuals and families through a network of faith communities which rotate as hosts.

Get involved in your local government

Attend city council meetings, zoning hearings and housing authority meetings and track how your community is responding or not responding to affordable housing needs.  Be sure to ask candidates for office about their thoughts on affordable housing and its importance in building an economically viable and healthy community.
